Count the MGs!

This is a photo of the 1958 F-production race at Put-In-Bay. At the head of the pack is a Triumph TR3A pace car driven by David Weisenberger.

I agree with Jeff that there are seven on the last train car and 8 loaded on every other car. In looking at the top row in clusters of four it appears to me that there are eight total car carrying cars (and perhaps maybe even more behind the roof line). Therefore including the mg 1100 that Kevin noted in the far parking lot, the total number would be 64.

I like the math formula, however, I believe the first rail car has (7) whereas the others have (8) cars loaded on each. I also think there may actually be at least (5) rail cars in front on the one with (7) MG’s.
Therefore, I’ll say (47) MG’s.
Jeff

PS. For the train layout enthusiast, that would be a unique rail car feature for their collection.

How about 5 RR cars x 7/car = 35?     Compare to today’s over-the-road trucks hauling 9 or 10 at a time….

Absolutely! Well done.

BTW, the "6 cwt" designation means "6 hundredweight".  Here in the US a hundredweight would be 100 lbs, but in the UK a hundredweight is 112 lbs. so the total carrying capacity for that van would be 672 lbs. of goods.

Cheers,
Kevin

Well, that didn't seem to send properly, so *here* is the photo from the previous message... the answer to the BMC products quiz.

Kevin McLemore

Hmm. No players. Ahh, well.

Anyway, here's your answer....

Kevin McLemore

OK here's today's teaser.

How many BMC cars can you identify by make & model in this photo?

(British Motor corporation was the parent company of MG from 1952-1968, before British Leyland took over.)

May be an image of 5 people, car and outdoors

Jeff Detwiler

Thanks,
More than I thought.
Pretty sure I had the VW nailed…..

Kevin McLemore

Got it in one, Ira - well spotted. Now, what possible years is it? (Haha)

Haven’t been out in mine, but I’m sorely tempted.

And I hope quite a few people were able to spot some MGs today with this great weather! I went out for a little spin yesterday and today. Have to take advantage when you can! 😊
