Parking lot woes...
so some dumb A$$ in a pick up rather than backing out of the space and then turning tries to do it all and whacks the rear driver side quarter panel after smacking my mirror into the open window. Its not that bad but i have a hand size dent and gouges the length of the panel down to the metal. I know i needed some rust bubble repair at the bottom of the panel so now i am confliced get the scratches and dents fixed by the guys insurance company and then get the metal work done and then have it all resprayed or just ask the guy for money to cover the respray and find a good local shop that will do a good job on the metal work?
advice?
recomendations?
thanks

So I was running some errands this afternoon in the midget. Stopped off at staples, I am in their 2 minutes or less when over the PA "will the driver of an MG midget please come to the front" CRAP!

Bill Snyder closed his doors and now works for Maaco as the shop manager of Montgomeryville. He might be able to recommend a body shop to do it right. He certainly can do the respray. Maaco 412 Doylestown Road, Lansdale -(215) 362-2406

Ryan,Last summer, Mark Johnson recommended Bill Snyder of Conshohocken Collision after a parking valet t-boned a Nissan Ultima with our roadster. Bill did a good job with the body work and paint job; and he did the work in a reasonable time frame. Bill is also a Philly MG Club member. 1-610-825-4141Also, thanks for the tip about the MGA on craigslist. We tried for it, but the owner didn't call us back. When we called again the next morning, she had a buyer inspecting the car while she took our call. I hope the lucky buyer was a fellow club member.--PeteOn Nov 15, 2010, at 8:37 PM, ryan.kubanoff@... wrote:So I was running some errands this afternoon in the midget. Ryan, I had a similar thing about two months ago. I went to Pete Cosmides and he emailed me an estimate and photos which I fordarded to Haggerty. They sent me a check immediately and went after the other peoples insurance co. State Farm. Petes man did an outstanding job on it.

Ryan:
If you have insurance with a classic car insurer, you may be best to go to someone who specializes in repairing classics. Have him give you an estimate for fixing the damage caused by the pick up and also a separate invoice for doing the rust repair that you need. Hopefully, he won’t be able to fix the pick up damage without also fixing the rust damage so it will all be covered. A classic car insurer is more likely to pay a higher cost to fix. You insurer will then subrogate against the pick up’s insurer. Since you are not at fault, the insurer cannot base any rate increase on this accident.
If you don’t have classic car insurance take it to a shop that you want and again get the two estimates. Notify the insurer for the pick up about the shop you choose and hopefully he can meet you there and work with your shop on the cost to repair. The pick up insurer will pay for the damage caused by the pick up and you can then negotiate with the shop to do the rust repair.

Not enough coffee. That wasn't meant to go out. Happy Tuesday, all. And Ryan, we feel your pain. I concur with Ed about the insurance! Good luck.
