This is addressed to all club members that have not contacted Karen Schulte as to whether you and your significant other are attending our party on Saturday at 3pm.
Get her off my back please!!!!! Call her ASAP to let her know. Do you know what it's like to deal with some one that has to guess how many people are coming. Mainly because people don't have the energy to push a couple of buttons and say a few words like no or yes. I know it's hot out and the dog is barking and the baby needs the diapers changed and the bills need paying and on and on. Please call her at 215-256-4435 or else I'm going to call my cousin Nicky Polito (-;

Jim and Karen:  I am sorry I did not respond sooner.   I have my guard weekend and Karen is down the shore and we will not be able to attend.  We both really wanted to go to this event.  Probably the last opportunity I will have to see everybody for a while.    Take care and have a great picnic.  Glenn

How long have you owned a car ???

He was the oldest living owner of a car from new. Just thought you'd like to see it. He donated it to a  Springfield  museum after his death.

My 74 B never ran like a Swiss watch, is dead silent only when it is not running (unfortunately becoming more frequent recently) and is not cosmetically perfect. So I guess, I’m not even in the same time zone let alone the same ball park.

Chapter four GT35

schultejim@...

Wednesday was a rally in the morning but we decided to sleep in and enjoy the resort. It was very humid and after lunch we went on a tour to Yerkes Observatory. Saw beautiful archectiture and the large telescope. Headed into town and found a fine cheese shop. Enjoyed some nice Wisconsin cheese before the picnic and human funkana. Split up into teams and had fun with some crazy games.
Thurday was tech sessions and John Twist went all day helping people. Banquet was delicious and enjoyed good company. Left early Friday morning to get to Cedar Pt. Amusement park for JD and the roller coasters.

News From The Simeone Museum

Grand Sport Corvette
On Saturday, August 7th at Noon, we will have our second "Legends of Motorsport" event and one everyone has been waiting for: the Corvette Grand Sport. This exceedingly rare racing sports car - one of only five ever built by General Motors - was previously owned by Philadelphians Roger Penske and George Wintersteen.

This event, sponsored by Chapman Chevrolet, will begin with a presentation in the main exhibit area on the development and history of the Grand Sport by Dr. Simeone. He will then be joined by Mr. Wintersteen who will tell us how he came to acquire the car from Penske and what it was like to race it in the 1966 USRRC series.

When the presentation is finished, we'll fire the beast up (cover your ears!) and take it out back to demonstrate why many felt this was the car that could have beaten the Cobras.

We will also have a 1996 Grand Sport on display, as well as a new 2010 GS from Chapman Chevrolet. We welcome all Corvette clubs to come to this event with your cars. If you would like to park in a reserved space in the back lot, please call Harry Hurst at 215-365-7233 to make arrangements. Space is limited, so call now!

For more information and photos of the Grand Sport, click here.

See The Simeone Museum This Saturday On FYI Philly On Channel 6

Blue Star
We were recently visited by WPVI's FYI Philly show who taped a segment on the Simeone Museum for their July 31st show. Hosts Karen Rogers and Adam Joseph interviewed Dr. Simeone about the Museum and also taped the opening, closing and transitions in the Mille Miglia area of the Museum.
Then, Dr. Simeone took Adam for a ride in the Grand Sport. He says his ears still haven't stopped ringing!

The show airs this Saturday, July 31st at 7PM on Philadelphia Channel 6. It will repeat after the late news (about 11:35 PM) on Sunday, August 1st.

Also, click on the photo to the right to link to WHYY's Web site where you can watch the segment on "Friday Arts" that Karen Smyles produced. Click on the white triangle in the area under "Watch Friday Arts Online." The segment on the Simeone Museum begins about 16 minutes into the piece, but you'll probably want to watch the entire show!

Get Your Motor Runnin' At The Motorcycle Show "Kick-Start" Party
Classic M/C at the Simeone
The "Classic Motorcycles at the Simeone," sponsored by Philly.com, will run from August 14th to September 9th  and this year will highlight Triumph. Click here for a list and description of the motorcycles on display this year. To launch the exhibit, we'll be honoring one of the greatest Triumph riders of all time - Gary Nixon - at our "Kick-Start" launch party, presented by Martin Motorsports. Additional support has been provided by Hagerty Insurance.

The menu for the party will include: pulled pork, fried chicken, potato salad, cole slaw, baked beans, and corn bread. We'll have wine and the beer will again be provided by our friends at Victory Brewing.

Nixon is one of the most colorful riders in American Motorcyclist Association history and also one of the most successful. In a 20-year pro racing career, Nixon scored 19 AMA National victories and earned the coveted AMA Grand National Championship twice. At the time of his retirement in 1979, he was the AMA's sixth all-time win leader and ranked third in road race victories (11) behind fellow Hall of Famers Kenny Roberts and Dick Mann.

Tickets are $25 each and MUST be purchased by Thursday, August 12th so we know how much food to order. Click Here to order your tickets.

John Fitch To Be Honored At This Year's Spirit Of Competition Award Dinner
John Firch in our cunningham
We are pleased to announce that John Fitch has been selected as the recipient of the third "Spirit of Competition" Award, to be presented Wednesday, October 20th at our annual dinner here at the Museum.

In the course of a driving career which spanned almost two decades, John Fitch won numerous sports car races including the 1953 Sebring 12-hour race in a Cunningham C4R. He competed in the 24 Hours of Le Mans six times, finishing as high as third. Fitch was the only American on the famed Mercedes-Benz racing team and later served as the first manager for Chevrolet's Corvette racing team, and the first general manager of the Lime Rock Park race track.

In addition, Fitch emulated his ancestor, John Fitch who invented the steamship, by inventing many safety innovations for the race track and the highway. The Fitch Barriers - yellow sand-filled barrels - are ubiquitous on America's highways and have helped save countless lives.

You will be receiving an email soon with information on reserving your place for this memorable evening.

We are quickly coming to the end of the first hardbound printing of "The Spirit of Competition." If you have considered purchasing a copy, we urge you not to wait.
